In a decisive show of regional unity, Presidents of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have unanimously endorsed the Ministerial Council’s resolution nominating President John Mahama as the sole West African candidate for the African Union (AU) Chairpersonship in 2027.

This overwhelming support from ECOWAS Heads of State and Government effectively clears all obstacles, positioning President Mahama as the AU Chairperson-in-waiting when the rotating leadership reaches West Africa in 2027.

President Mahama expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his peers, pledging to uphold the high expectations of the continent and to serve with dedication and integrity.

His election marks a moment of pride for Ghana and underscores the country’s continued leadership on the African stage.

“Congratulations, Your Excellency — you keep making Ghana proud,” read widespread celebratory messages across social media. 🇬🇭
